The Town of High River is located 45 km south of the City of Calgary, just off Highway #2. Because of the close proximity to the City of Calgary, some of the residents commute to work in Calgary. Also, we have all the major dealerships carrying many makes of vehicles, Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda, and Chrysler, as well as several farm implement dealerships and makes vehicle shopping more economical than the larger, Calgary market. The town enjoys all municipal services such as power, natural gas, telephone, cable TV, water & sewer. High River has 2 Elementary Schools and a combined Junior & Senior High School as well as a Catholic School from Kindergarten to Grade 10 (grades 11 & 12 will be added in the future). The Town has ample recreation facilities including a recreational complex with an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool & sauna, 2 hockey arenas, and a 6 sheet curling rink. High River also has 2 golf courses, 10 parks & playground, theatre, bowling alley, racquet ball & tennis courts, 11 ball diamonds & a cultural centre. Artistically we have many talented artists in the area. Works of these artists are on display at the "Art and Soul' gallery, which showcases many of the local artists. Two Feathers Gallery run by another local artist, Rocky Barstad, features our Native Artists. High River hosts 17 Murals that depict some of our local history. There is the George Lane Park and Campground that is run by the Highwood Lions Club. Highwood Golf and Country Club (27 hole) and Rio Vista Golf Club (9 hole) offer opportunities for the golfer to challenge the novice golfer or the pro and, there is also the Pathway system that allows for a walk all around the town. It is a great system for those looking for some relaxation or just passing time. Today, High River has a population just over 9,000 people and it's land mass covers just over 11 square kilometers.
